Former MP Rajan Sushant today announced that he would launch an agitation in the entire state seeking implementation of the old pension scheme for all government employees. He said that as a first step towards it he had submitted a letter to the Speaker of Parliament and Speaker of Himachal Assembly that his pension both from the Parliament and Himachal Assembly should be stopped.

There are about 90,000 government employees in the state who are entitled to contributory pension that comes to just about Rs2,500 to Rs3,000 per month. — Rajan Sushant, former MP

“I will not opt for pension as an MP or an MLA till old pension scheme for all employees was restored,” Sushant said.

Talking to The Tribune, Sushant said that in Himachal even if a person becomes MLA even for a single day he gets a pension of about Rs 80,000 per month. This is injustice with other working class that they are not getting any social security whereas politicians are enjoying hefty pensions.

He said there were about 90,000 government employees in Himachal who are getting pension under the new pension scheme. They are just entitled to contributory pension that comes to just about Rs 2,500 to Rs 3,000 per month. This was injustice with employees of the state.

Sushant said that he would sit on a dharna in front of the office of Deputy Commissioner, Kangra, from 11 am to 2 pm. “After this I will travel all across the state and motivate employees to join his movement for getting old pension scheme restored for them.

Sushant said that the old pension scheme was stopped for government employees across the country from January 1, 2004. The scheme was just like social security for working class. “I have also written to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the old pension scheme should be implemented again or else he would lead an employees’ agitation for their rights,” he said.
